Abel Tasman Museum

Learn about the life and explorations of the famous seafarer Abel Tasman in his home village of Lutjegast.

Take a closer look

This museum takes you on an expedition with Abel Tasman. You will learn more about the region of his birth, and contemporary contacts with the cultures of the (egg) countries Tasman visited. The history of land and sea and of the northern and southern hemispheres come together here. With the main question being: what does this history mean for our actions today? There is a beautiful story behind every museum piece. The enthusiastic volunteers will be happy to tell you more.

There is also plenty for children to discover. For instance, they can try out different musical instruments, imagine themselves sailing on a ship for months or pet a kiwi cuddly toy.
