Voormalige Rijks HBS Groningen
This striking building was the Dutch entry for the World's Fair in Philadelphia in 1876. Designed as a Higher Civic School, the building was at the time the model for school construction in secondary education.

A special element in architect H. Raamakers' design is the signature room above the vestibule. This room had a glass ceiling with an expanded glass dome above it. The former school was designed around 1869 and is characterised by a monumental Neo-classical architectural style. Striking elements are the three semicircular arches above the entrance and the polygonal observation post. From this wood-clad observation post, one could look at the stars.
