Wierdedorp Garnwerd
'Born and bred' or 'imported', young or slightly older, nicely withdrawn or fully active in society, wierdedorp Garnwerd is diverse and the inhabitants of the village on Reitdiep are proud of it!
For the 430-plus residents of Garnwerd, the public primary school is the most important facility in the village. In 2014/2015, almost 70 children 'farm' their 'Kromme Akkers'. They come from Garnwerd, Feerwerd and the hamlets or villages around it. Besides the school, the small building near the ice rink also has a multifunctional character. It serves as a rehearsal/meeting room for some Garnwerder choirs and societies and, of course, it provides warmth when there is ice! With three catering establishments, the village also has a lot to offer nonvillagers. Pieterpad walkers, cyclists, water sports enthusiasts and other day-trippers easily triple the population on nice summer days. Even staying overnight is (almost) always possible in the numerous and nice B&Bs!

The residents of Garnwerd and the surrounding area, attract attention by organising various events: from ZomerJazzFietstoer to Reitdiepswemtochten, from living room concerts at te Gast in Garnwerd to the mud-fest of the Braggeltocht. When there is ice, everyone is welcome at the cosy ice rink at the northern edge of the village. But Garnwerd is also a great place to be on quiet days. A walk through the village or just outside it is a delight for young and old alike.
Although it can never be grasped, the Village Association of Garnwerd e.o. makes an attempt with this site to give the most complete picture of what Garnwerd has to offer.
