Kerk Saaxumhuizen
Saaxumhuizen's church was built as early as the 13th century. Yet today you can hardly see anything of its medieval character. The tower of the little church can be climbed.

The bricks were plastered white in the nineteenth century and the detached, low stubby tower was replaced by the present one. The way the inside of the church looks is mainly due to Jonker Geurt Goosen Alberda. He was collator of Saaxumhuizen, among others, and paid great attention to the buildings entrusted to him. Among other things, the beautiful gentlemen's benches are owed to him. He commissioned the well-known carver Anthonie Wallis to provide them with a beautiful crowning. This crowning was stolen many years later.
