Cabiner: spend the night off-grid in the middle of Groningen's nature
Sleeping in the middle of Dutch nature? After a walk through a beautiful nature reserve, you arrive at your cabin. Here you really go offline for a while: no wifi, no hustle and bustle, just the peace and quiet of nature all around you. A place to slow down, recharge and enjoy the sound of the wind through the trees.
Cabiner 's mission is to connect people and nature. The concept arose from a simple thought: nature provides tranquillity, inspiration and new energy. That is why you can spend the night here in the middle of nature, far away from the noise of everyday life.
The story behind Cabiner
It started in 2014, above the Arctic Circle in Norway. While trekking, founders Sander and Vincent stumbled upon a simple wooden cabin. No luxury, no range, no distractions, just nature, silence and each other. That combination of adventure and minimal comfort triggered something. Freedom. Connection. Creativity. The realisation that the very absence of stimuli makes room for new ideas. They wanted to bring that feeling back to the Netherlands.
Cabiner works with a network of walking routes and cabins in and between the most beautiful nature reserves in the Netherlands. This not only connects people with nature, but also nature reserves with each other. The more places become part of this network, the more people can experience the value of nature up close.
In Groningen, you will find Cabiner at three special places: at Reitdiep in Het Hogeland, in the stream valley of the Ruiten Aa in Westerwolde and on a mound in Het Hogeland. At Reitdiep, you walk through an ancient cultural landscape of water, dykes and mounds. In Westerwolde, you will experience forests, streams and small-scale nature along the meandering Ruiten Aa. On Het Hogeland, you spend the night in the middle of the wide country, where nature, culture and history come together and the horizon seems endless.
Stap stap of the hustle and bustle
At Cabiner , your stay therefore does not start at a car park next to your accommodation. You don't come to the door by car. Instead, you start with a walk through the countryside. A hike to your cabin, straight through forests, along water or across open fields. That hike is not an afterthought, but an essential part of the experience. You slow down naturally. You leave your agenda behind. Stap by stap , you break free from the hustle and bustle.
And once you arrive, there's no wifi. No notifications. Just the sound of the wind, birds and maybe the crackling of the woodstove. Being consciously offline creates space for real conversations, for silence, for reflection. You notice how quickly your senses adapt: you see more, hear more and feel more.
