Long-distance routes

The Pieterpad

The Pieterpad is the most famous long-distance walking route in the Netherlands, starting in Pieterburen in Groningen and ending at Sint-Pietersberg near Maastricht. The route is almost 500 kilometres long. In Groningen, you walk from Pieterburen to Winsum (12 km), then to Groningen (21 km) and then to Zuidlaren (21 km), among other places. Along the way, you'll pass the meandering Reitdiep, vast fields, mound villages and former peat bogs with lakes formed by peat extraction.

Pronkjewailpad

From cheese dairy to carriage museum, from castle to corn maze, from borgen to wierden: together they make Groningen what is typically Groningen. What that is exactly, you only really understand once you have experienced it for yourself. The Pronkjewailpad is a hiking adventure that connects all those experiences with a path of hundreds of kilometres throughout the province. Choose the North Route, East Route or South Route or just walk them all. Participants get something extra in each village on the route at one or more entrepreneurs.

The Ziltepad

On the Wadden coast, Het Ziltepad takes you past characteristic villages and right through nature. The entire Ziltepad runs from Stroe in North Holland, through Friesland and ends in North Oost Groningen, at Losdorp. The long-distance route gives you the real pilgrim feeling. The route is divided into 15 stages, each starting at a different church. The churches are open to you in both summer and winter, giving them a new function.
