Borg Nienoord
Borg Nienoord stands on the estate of the same name in Leek and was founded in 1525 by the van Ewsum family from Middelstum. Well-known later residents are members of the Van Inn- Und Knyphausen family.

Due to the actions of Ferdinand Folef van Inn-Und Knyphausen (nicknamed ‘the mad squire’), the upper floor of the manor house burnt down in 1846. The orangery and the coach house subsequently burnt down in 1850. The story goes that these were attempts by the squire to destroy the gallery of family portraits. In 1884, Nienoord became the property of Jonkheer van Panhuys. He had the manor house rebuilt that very same year as a villa in the Neoclassical style. The country house was significantly reduced in size as a result. Among other things, the entrance gate dating from 1708 still serves as a reminder of the old manor house. borg Nienoord forms part of Museum Nienoord, a remarkable 19th-century Groningen country estate of distinction, with a unique collection of carriages of national importance.
