At BoerenBed, you can experience at first hand what it is like to live on a farm. During your stay at the farm, you can learn, romp, discover and relax.
Discover our brand-new farm Botterheerd in the Groningen village of Oostwold. Botter means butter and heerd is the Groningen name for farm. It is a great place to be at Bartjan and Bertha's farm. They enjoy living here together with their daughters Femke and Maud and their dog Mia. Bartjan and Bertha are the fourth generation on their family farm, which is over a hundred years old. The farm is home to more than 70 dairy cows and around 40 young stock. Calves are born all year round, so come for a maternity visit!
At Botterheerd, you can play outside! Make a mess with sand and water, cuddle with your favourite animals in the cuddle barn or go exploring in the ditch with your fishing net to find fish and water animals. In fine weather, you can even go supping in the waters of Groningen, straight from the farm. Even if it rains once in a while, you will have plenty of fun at Botterheerd. Borrow a board game from the farm shop, or buy a craft kit to get cracking in your little tent house.
Help Bartjan and Bertha feed the cows, milk the calves or feed one of the other animals, such as the funny guinea fowls. Do you dare to get into their coop? In the farm shop you can order fresh bread and breakfast is also available. You just have to collect fresh eggs from the henhouse. Or make your own pancakes with the pancake package from the farm shop, prepared with fresh cow's milk.
Oostwold is a small village in beautiful Groningen. You will find a varied landscape with vast meadows, picturesque villages, lakes and of course the Wadden Sea, which is on UNESCO's World Heritage List. You will enjoy nature, space and silence. Go hiking, cycling or enjoy the water together. Need a bit more action? The vibrant city of Groningen is nearby, with a 15-minute drive from Botterheerd you are at the foot of the Martinitoren, right in the middle of quaint shops and restaurants.
