On 20 June 1601, the States of Groningen decided that a Provincial House should be built in the former St Martin's School. After a major renovation, the first meeting of Provincial States took place on 16 June 1602 in the States Room of the new Provincial House. From 1603, Gedeputeerde Staten met in the Gedeputeerdenkamer. After that, there have been many renovations and restorations.
