Marktpleinkerk
The Marktpleinkerk in Winschoten was built in the thirteenth century. The church combines Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles.

Not only does the architectural style date from that period, but the interior – including the pulpit, the baptismal font and the altarpiece – is also inspired by late medieval Gothic architecture. The Gothic style is also recognisable in its conception of space: the tall stained-glass windows draw the churchgoer’s gaze upwards into the spacious basilica.
