Around 1960, he started excavating and enlarging the moat around his monastery farm and built a miniature version of a head-neck-hull farmhouse there, as a shelter for the ducks. He then decided to add a church. The construction of the church took 13 years. He got the 12,000 bricks from Belgium and the organ from IJhorst. After building the church, farmer Harkema also decided to add a teahouse in the style of the monastery church in Aduard. The teahouse and/or the church are suitable for weddings, parties/barbecues, meetings and team building. It is also suitable for taking beautiful wedding photos. The church and teahouse are surrounded by a number of canals with various bridges, such as a drawbridge, stone arch bridge and a swing bridge. The water surrounding the church includes two more recreated miniature towers. In summer, it is a lovely resting place for cyclists coming from Garnwerd or from the city of Groningen. There is also ample parking space for cars. You are welcome on our terrace for a cup of coffee and a delicious slice of apple pie.
