Molukse Kerk
Near the first residential area in Appingedam specially designed for Moluccans, a nieuwe kerk was built in 1960. This Molukse kerk has remained virtually unchanged since its construction.

Because of its 'semi-permanent' nature, the building looks much like a barracks, but has something extra because of the slender roof window with steel cross. Inside, there is a striking supporting structure: the wooden rafters have remained uncovered. The simple wooden pulpit and baptismal font were provided by builders Niehof and Hund from Appingedam. The swinging bell suspended from the east wall was also cast in 1960 by the van Bergen company from Heiligerlee. The church is used by Geredja Indjili Maluku (Moluccan Evangelical Church) and by Nood Protestant Maluku di Belanda March '53 (Nood Gemeente Protestant Maluku). The church has been granted National Monument status and was completely restored and earthquake-proofed in 2017. The church houses an information centre on the history of the Moluccan community in the Netherlands.
