Together with the tramwachthuisje on Holsteinlaan, the cottage is the only surviving example of a tramwachthuisje in the province of Groningen. It therefore has the status of a monument. The tram still passed through Haren until 1939. It was then replaced by the bus. The waiting shed is still in use, but as a waiting room for the buses.
