Klokkenstoel
Despite its name, the village of Oldekerk is one of the youngest villages in the Westerkwartier. The name refers to a church that once stood here. The foundations of this church (and its tower) were recovered during excavations in 1998.
Take a closer look
The church was demolished in 1623. A klokkenstoel was erected here instead. The bell that hangs in it today was cast in 1948 by Van Bergen from Heiligerlee. It weighs no less than 750 kg and is rung (electrically) three times a day: at 8 am, 12 noon and 4 pm.
