Schutsluis en draaibrug Wetsinge
Before the Wetsingersluis lock was commissioned in 1877, the Reitdiep was directly connected to the sea. At that time, the ebb and flow of the tide could even be felt in the city of Groningen.

To reduce the risk of high water levels and flooding, it was decided to build a lock to close off the Reitdiep. This lock was constructed to the west of Groot Wetsinge. The lock ultimately remained in service for just fifty years. A new lock was then built at Dorkwerd to take over its role. The lock remained unused for many years, until a new swing bridge was built a few years ago for pedestrians and cyclists.
