On the border of the Netherlands and Germany, you will find the Kiekkaaste. A bird-watching hut on a special part of the Netherlands. The fresh water of the Eems and the salt water of the Wadden Sea meet here. This creates a special landscape with plants, birds, fish and other animals that live nowhere else in the Wadden Sea. From the bird-watching hut, you have a beautiful view over the mudflats of the Dollard, where hundreds of dunlin can often be seen. Brothers, seals and porpoises are also sometimes seen on the salt marshes.
Be careful: the path leading to the hut can be quite blubbery. Also, a visit to the birdwatching hut is not recommended in very strong winds.
