Vera is the centre for Pop-Culture in Groningen, and is not for nothing better known as the Club for the International Pop Underground. Vera was once a neat student association, and that's where the name comes from: Veri Et Recti Amici (True And Sincere Friends). Anno now it is a full-fledged concert venue. Many, now world-famous bands have once performed here, such as: U2, Sonic Youth, Nirvana and The White Stripes.
