Klokkentoren Westerdijkshorn

Sometime in the 13th or 14th century, a small church was founded in the village of Westerdijkshorn. A new tower was then built with the monastic bricks of the old tower on the site where the church once stood.

Residents of the village who died were buried in the sacred ground around the church. In the 15th century, a freestanding bell tower was built in this cemetery. In 1658, a bell was installed in it to make it complete. As the maintenance costs were too high for the small congregation, it was decided to demolish the church in 1802. The bell tower was allowed to remain, but was inadequately maintained. In 1870, it collapsed. All that has been preserved all this time is the old bell, which still hangs in the new tower.
