The mill, registered under the original name De Liefde, was renamed "Jonge Jan", after his grandchild, by the then owner and miller Jan Smid in 1963, during repairs. After selling the mill to the municipality of Hefshuizen, (since 1990 it has been the municipality of Eemsmond), the former miller says in an interview with the Ommelander Courant on 26 February 1987: "When we came here (1946), the name "De Liefde" was not on the mill. We then just renamed it "De Jonge Jan", after our grandson. That name is still on it. It probably won't stay that way, because that name only made sense to us." This prediction came true, because on 3 July 2002, by popular demand, the mill regained its original name, The Love.
