De kazerne were built in 1918, after which the side wings were used as housing for the commander and deputy commander. The middle section was used as office space and to receive guests. Unmarried troopers were assigned sleeping quarters upstairs. Later, the side wings were also used for this purpose. In 1992, de kazerne were disbanded. As the Dutch-German border was opened up, it was no longer necessary to guard the border. the building was then converted into office space, but traces of its original use can still be seen. A cell for detainees, for example. Today, the entire ground floor is exhibition space for contemporary art.
