Leave the dark to be dark and see how beautiful the night is during the Night of the Night. The Night of the Night is an annual event, which in 2019 will be held for the 15th time. Various activities are held within the framework of the Night of the Night in relation to the Dark Skypark Lauwersmeer.

Let’s Gro is all about Groningen of the future. How can we ensure affordable care and a proper link between education and the labour market? How can technology contribute and ensure a city is an even better place for entrepreneurship and more interesting to spend time? Where do opportunities and challenges lie?

This is a wonderful wintry activity for both young and old, which has been taking place for 60 years, with about 2000 participating pupils each year. It takes place around the pond of the Noorderplantsoen Groningen, with four different distances. A fun afternoon for the entire family with varying sports and games.


Monday 4 November

The All Hallows market in Winschoten (abbreviated to Adrillen) is the largest annual fair of the province of Groningen, with many stands, a fun fair, music, theatre and good food. One week later, the mini version of the event is held during Lutje Adrillen.


Saturday 9 November

The Grote Gebeuren, which is held in the attractively designed Groninger Forum library, is a festival for readers, poets and writers, featuring numerous leading authors. Decide on your own literary menu of interviews, discussions, lectures, signing sessions, music and crossover performances; in short, a full evening’s programme with something for everyone.

The ultimate theatre festival for young theatre lovers with various of the very best international performances, exciting shows, plenty of new talents and much, much more.

An attractive Christmas market will take place in the special environment of the small fortified town. The Christmas market features numerous charming stands selling Christmas and gift items and Christmas trees.


21 until 23 December

WinterWelVaart – a wintry event organised in conjunction with the Historische Zeilvaart Groningen and the A-Kwartier community association – takes place during the weekend one week prior to Christmas. Approximately 25 ships in and around the A will be open to the public. WinterWelVaart is a Christmas happening with food, music and cheerfulness, and with attention for trades and culture.
