Enjoy late summer on the water

Summer may be slowly turning into autumn, but fortunately that does not mean that supping is over! Even in late summer, there is nothing better than getting out on the water. Whether you want to float through the canals or prefer to calmly paddle across a mirror-smooth lake: supping is accessible for everyone and surprisingly relaxing. At the Supperij, you can even go a step further with sup yoga lessons on Sunday 26 October. Under the guidance of a qualified instructor, you will not only learn the right technique, but also experience how well balance, breathing and nature come together on the water.

Magical Samhain at Fort Bourtange

On 25 and 26 October, Stap a world full of mysticism, fantasy and enchantment during Magical Samhain in Fort Bourtange. During this special weekend, ghosts, time travellers, pirates and other wonderful characters take over de fort. Enjoy impressive fire shows, performers, stilt walkers and magical encounters that bring the ancient fortress to life. Samhain is one of the oldest festivals in the world and marks the beginning of the new year for the Celts. The festival celebrates the transition from autumn to winter - a moment when the line between our world and that of the spirits blurs. The sky turns grey, the earth breathes silence, and nature prepares for a new beginning.

Autumn means mushrooms! During the excursion on the Ennemaborg estate on 19 October, you will discover the most beautiful species together with a guide. You will learn why they are so important in nature and look for special shapes and colours. Out and about with the dog in Oldambt

Indian summer or not: your dog always wants to go outside. Nature lends itself well to this in the late summer sun. Prefer something different? During this hike through the Oldambt, you will discover the traces of vanished medieval villages. It is a route full of history and adventure, where the landscape tells you something new every time. For did you know that centuries ago, entire villages were reclaimed here, then flooded and later reclaimed? Under the thick layers of clay and peat in what is now Oldambt and the Dollard lie the silent remains of these drowned settlements.

Adrilling in Winschoten

Adrillen, or All Saints' Market, is a Winschoten tradition that takes place in the centre of Winschoten every year on the first Monday of November. For more than 200 years, it has been Groningen's largest annual market. Stroll along a wide range of stalls, stap an attraction at the fairground and enjoy street theatre and live music. The market is from 09:00 to 17:00, but the cafés and restaurants will stay lively for a while after that, too.
