Cycle route: past the most beautiful churches

Some call them beacons of silence, peace and contemplation, others praise their robust appearance and still others argue that together they are one big museum. The fact is that almost every village in Groningen has a beautiful church. And it's not just the churches that are famous, some organs are world-famous too, such as the Arp Schnitger organ in Noordbroek. If you can, be sure to drop in to enjoy the silence, the murals or the exhibitions. The route from Harkstede to Schildwolde runs through nature reserve 't Roegwold. Here you will experience the silence and space of nature.

Largely, the route follows the above cycle junctions, but deviates at a few points:

  • In Hoogezand, turn right at junction 31. Turn left at the roundabout and turn right into Knijpslaan. At the end, turn left: you will drive past the Jewish cemetery.
  • After junction 8, cycle right towards junction 80. Just before this, turn right onto Roodharsterslaan, and after the bend turn left onto Bieleveldslaan. Turn right in Harkstede.
