Groningen Museum Night

Always wanted to experience a night at the museum? You can do so not only in films, but also in Groningen. On Saturday 20 September, visit the Groningen museums during the night. For €13.50, you get admission to no fewer than seven museums during Groninger Museum Night. And there will also be all kinds of activities organised. Get ready for a night full of art, music, workshops, lectures and more.

Groninger Museum

At the Groninger Museum Museum, the atmosphere is already in place with a DJ set by Ko Kliko and the club music of Baby Beserk. Enjoy all the exhibitions such as It's About Time, which takes you back in time, or wander through a life-size dream house at Welcome to the Dreamhouse. Also don't forget the Bound to the Miraculous and Dragons & Demons exhibitions .

Forum Groningen

The Forum is all about tattoos. Discover the Tattoo andTattoo Stories exhibitions and have fun playing Guitar Hero, where you can pick up a guitar yourself and feel like a real rock star for one night. There is much more to experience, such as a workshop where you will get your own (temporary) tattoo, or watch as tattooing is done live (and a real one at that). Test your knowledge at the TATTOO Pubquiz with special facts, traditional techniques and iconic artists. Then unravel the secrets of great storytellers at Storyworld, the museum of comics, animation and games.

Universiteitsmuseum

During Museum Night, you will learn all about how the brain functions at the Universiteitsmuseum Museum at the exhibition Brainstorm - The Human Brain & Research in Groningen. You will be taken through the functions of the brain: wanting, thinking and doing. From Brain Bingo, where you will learn about dopamine, to making flower seed bombs: there is something for everyone. Also visit the exhibition space Entangled Stories: Science and Colonialism in Petrus Camper's collection. Walk through the courtyard of Biodiversity in Augmented Reality, get in the party mood at the Silent Disco, and discover how people used to live at Planting the Past - Archaeobotany in Groningen.

Museum aan de A

At the Museum aan de A, the former Northern Shipping Museum, you will no longer only learn about the history of Groningen's shipping industry. You will discover much more thanks to workshops, music, dance and theatre. For example, take part in the Egyptian dance workshop, enjoy the danceable records of DJ Boes, or admire the photo projection Interim by Anita Oosterloo and Joost Nuiijten, which takes you through the renovation process of Museum aan de A. Also take a seat aan tafel at L.A.F. with Wachtgedachte, where an ordinary dinner can take unexpected turns.

Synagoge Groningen

The Synagogue in Folkingestraat is the heart of Groningen's Jewish community. The permanent exhibition introduces you to Jewish culture and the history of the Jewish community in the city and province of Groningen. This summer's changing exhibition features the exhibition From Memory to Remembrance. The evening will be accompanied by the Bolotny Trio with light classical music and jazz, but you can also wander through the beautiful building with an audio tour.

Northern Lights

Noorderlicht is an international stage for photography and other visual media. During the Groninger Museumnacht, you can admire the exhibition What have we done? In which World Press Photo celebrates its 70th anniversary together with Noorderlicht and shows how images have changed our understanding of the world. Not going home empty-handed? Then take part in The Great Big Angry Fake News Quiz for a chance to win a Fujifilm Instax camera. Learn how each portrait tells its own story in the Mug Shots & Masterpieces workshop and end the evening with a small disco party in the control room of the old Niemeyer factory.

GRID x Akerk

During Museum Night, GRID Graphic Museum's mobile museum print shop, De Druktemaker, will come to de Akerk. Roll up your sleeves and make a linocut or print a Werkmand print. Have a live poem written about yourself by poet Kasper Peters, who sits behind an old typewriter and creates a personalised poem for you based on his first impression. Don't worry, Kasper only writes nice things. There will also be music by Timeline, you can screen print with the VERA Art Division and Trypan Blue presents Nature vs Nurture.
