In the late Middle Ages, Appingedam was a bustling and important trading town. In the picturesque centre, you will still find many hints of its ancient glory and wealth. Here you will still find many medieval buildings.
Take a stroll through the city centre and admire the residential houses with hangende keukens. These buildings once served as warehouses, but were later converted into residential houses. There was little room for a kitchen in the residential house, so the kitchens were built hanging over the Damsterdiep.
