This former church originally dates from the 13th century. In 1656, the church was rebuilt and the tower raised. After its restoration, which was completed in 1985, the building became a cultural centre for the north-west Groningen region. The church character was retained, however. A striking feature of the interior are the ceiling paintings. These were installed by Wout Muller and Matthijs Röling during the last restoration.
