Vera is the hub for pop culture in Groningen, and it is not without reason that it is better known as the Club for the International Pop Underground. Vera was once a respectable students’ society, and that is where the name comes from: Veri Et Recti Amici (True and Sincere Friends). Nowadays, it is a fully-fledged concert venue. Many bands, now world-famous, have performed here, such as U2, Sonic Youth, Nirvana and The White Stripes.
