National Park Lauwersmeer is a large and varied nature reserve where there is plenty to do. At the activiteitencentrum Lauwersnest , you can find plenty of information about the area. Here, you’ll learn about the various birds that live around Lauwersmeer and, whilst doing so, you’ll discover how migratory birds use the area as a refuelling stop on the Oost Atlantic flyway. You can also discover all sorts of things about the Dark Sky Park – did you know that here you can experience true darkness? Take a peek into the secrets of the night and become a star in the darkness. Next to the Lauwersnest is a nest-building wood where children can build their own nests using natural materials and have a great time playing. The shop sells a range of maps, route guides, books and maps of the area. Several walking routes start from the centre, which also serves as a starting point for excursions.
