Borgerswold Youth Gardens De Toene

About 10 years ago, the Youth Gardens became part of De Toene in Borgerswold. Since then, an enthusiastic working group maintains the organic garden and makes it as attractive as possible for people and nature.

There is a cooperation with Jenaplan school 'In de Manne'. From April to July, some 80 pupils visit the garden every week. Older pupils work in pairs on their own little garden, younger children garden together. They learn to sow, harvest, compost and care for nature in a playful way, with fun as their main goal.

The working group works according to natural principles, such as permaculture and the no-dig method, disturbing soil life as little as possible. Other gardens are also visited for inspiration.

The Youth Gardens exist thanks to volunteers and support from local entrepreneurs, who donate materials and resources.
