Villa Heymans
Architect H.P. Berlage did not like symmetry. Hence, the entrance to this building he designed is not on the front, but on the side.

This prevented the building from taking on an overly monumental appearance. Another striking Berlage feature is the stucco-free facade. On the other side of the canal, many of the nineteenth-century facades are decorated with stucco. Berlage abhorred this, as it hid the construction. The villa is named after its client, the internationally renowned professor of psychology and philosophy Professor G. Heymans. He commissioned Berlage to design a residential house, with space for a psychology laboratory. In 1995, the building was registered as a national monument. Partly because of its cultural-historical and architectural-historical value.
