The Grand Theatre is located in the premises of the eponymous, former cinema built in 1929. The façade is still more or less intact and is one of the scarce examples of sleek Art-Deco architecture in Groningen. As such, it is on the list of modern monuments. Grand Theatre Groningen creates and presents performances and concerts, sharp and stimulating. Fun city initiatives, young entrepreneurs and programme makers are given space, alongside house companies Het Houten Huis, Club Guy & Roni and De Jongens and festivals such as Eurosonic/Noorderslag, Noorderzon and Jonge Harten. The NNT is also always welcome. Grand Theatre Groningen seeks out, scouts and encourages these often still unknown, ambitious performing artists to offer time, space and support to realise their ideas and give them depth. The result is sharp, stimulating performances and concerts that are right in the middle of current events.
