Someone who has a roof over their head does not automatically have food to eat as well. This was also the case in the past. Especially for these 'Poor householders' who could not support themselves, the Armhuiszitten Convent was founded in 1621.

Especially for these 'poor house-sitters' who could not support themselves, the Armhuiszitten Convent was founded on A-Church Street in 1621. This convent included not only the guesthouse itself, but also an organisation that managed several guesthouses and distributed bread and butter to the poor. They did this from the Butter and Bread House near the Martini Church. The guest house can be recognised by the special gable stones in the front facade. Also in the courtyard of the guest house is an old pump, probably dating from the eighteenth century. This was used to pump up rain and groundwater.
