De Baak

A huge artwork made of erratic boulders has been installed here: De Baak. The artwork was created in 2006 by the sculptor Rob Schreef. A nature walk also begins at De Baak , which you can start from the Abel Tasman Path.

Incidentally, Lutjegast is also the place where the explorer Abel Tasman was born in 1603. Lutjegast is the northernmost tip of the Drents Plateau, an area that lies at a relatively higher elevation than its surroundings. As the name suggests, the area lies mainly in Drenthe, but small parts of it extend into Groningen and Friesland.
