Day 1: You’ll board the magnificent klipper Nova Cura right in the heart of historic Leeuwarden (close to the railway station). After a warm welcome and settling in, our journey to Groningen begins. We sail through the beautiful Frisian countryside across the Dokkumer Ee, which ends at the Lauwersmeer, where we cross over to Zoutkamp.On the way, we’ll moor somewhere in a meadow to enjoy a Frisian lunch (Frisian ‘nagelkaas’ and sausage) and some peace and quiet, before continuing our journey. We sail through the old town of Dokkum and, leaving the town behind us, sail through beautiful countryside whilst gliding through the water at 8 km per hour. After passing through the lock at Dokkumer Nieuwe Zijlen, we sail into the province of Groningen and set course for Zoutkamp. Once in Zoutkamp, you can enjoy a delicious meal at one of the many (seafood) restaurants. Day 2: After a lovely, hearty breakfast, we continue our journey at around 10.30. But before we can sail up the Reitdiep (the waterway connecting Zoutkamp to Groningen), we first have to pass through the old sea lock at Zoutkamp, which protects Groningen from the sea. On the way, we’ll enjoy a traditional Groningen lunch (mustard soup with bacon bits and rye bread with bacon) as we make our way up the winding, narrow Reitdiep. We see the city of Groningen looming in the distance. Once we’ve moored in the centre of Groningen at around 5 pm, we’ll enjoy a glass of Hooghoud and everyone will go their separate ways, having enjoyed a unique trip. 12 places available – be quick!
