Muurschildering Jacobus Kapteyn
Since 17 June 2022, a painting by Jacobus Cornelius Kapteyn has been on display on the wall leading to the entrance of the Universiteitsmuseum . The unveiling took place one day before the centenary of the scientist’s death.

Location
This mural is, following Aletta Jacobs’ work on Broerstraat, the second in the series of academic murals depicting Groningen’s scientists and is the work of artist Fynn van der Ziel. At the centre of the work is a portrait of Kapteyn himself, sitting on a tree stump. This refers to the research he carried out into tree rings and the sun’s influence on the climate. The other elements of the mural also refer to his life. Can you spot them all?
