Villa de Beuk
The ribbon village of Stadskanaal is home to the national monument Villa de Beuk. In this monumental building, you can enjoy one of the delicious home-made High Tea's or Royal Coffee in peace and with attention to your dining companion.
Take a closer look
The villa was commissioned by timber merchant Herman Albertus Somer in 1905. He wanted a beautiful house for his future
wife. In 1906, Mr Somer married Geeske Herminda van der Sluis and they went to live here. Her initials are in a gable stone next to the front door.
After the Somer family left the villa, it had many other uses. Around 1950, it housed a nuns' home where elderly women were cared for. Later, it housed the public library, a music society, an Italian centre and a clothing fair, among others. Most notable of all was Youth Centre Rajakimoes. This was a leading pop venue in the area, which many still have fond memories of. In 1994, the Villa was given residential use again.

In 2019, we became the owner of Villa de Beuk. Now we get to give this monument back its atmosphere and appearance as it was once intended. Visible to everyone. We will give it functions through which not only we, but many more people
can enjoy this beautiful and unique building.
From Wednesday to Sunday, you can book our High Tea or Royal Coffee. For groups larger than 10 people, you can also make reservations on Mondays or Tuesdays.
Should you have any further information on the history of our Villa, we would be happy to hear from you. There is probably much more to tell than we know at the moment.
Greetings,
Jan and Teska
