Scharlakenbos
The Scharlakenbos is a woodland covering approximately five hectares on the southern edge of the village of Haren in Groningen.
This popular walking area is managed by the municipality of Groningen, which largely allows nature to take its course. It features a variety of deciduous and coniferous trees, including rowan, birch, pedunculate oak, beech, white acacia and pine. Snake’s root and pill fern, plants that have become rare in the Netherlands, can be found there. The area also features a small pingo ruin. There is a nature education trail through the woods for both children and adults. The remains of the old outdoor pools from the swimming complex can also be explored in the woods.
