Vestingmuseum Oudeschans

The rich history of picturesque Oudeschans is given new lustre at the Fortress Museum.

Take a closer look

During a visit to the museum, apart from Oudeschans, the surrounding entrenchments on both sides of the border (Grensland-Schansenland) are also highlighted. After all, it is the area where the 80-year war with Spain began in 1568. The fascinating history with a lot of warfare comes to life through the hundreds of utensils found during archaeological excavations in de fort.

Besides richly decorated pottery and glass household objects, dozens of completely preserved shoes and mules are on display in the showcases. You can also find military archaeological finds, such as weapons and cannonballs. The museum gives you a good idea of how people lived and worked in a fortress in the 17th and 18th centuries.

You will also find regular special exhibitions at the museum.
