The church in Nieuw-Beerta was built in 1856 to replace a seventeenth-century church. During that period, between 1824 and 1875, many churches were built with financial support from the Ministry of Water Management. These churches were known as ‘Waterstaatskerken’. The simple hall church in Nieuw-Beerta is also one such ‘Waterstaatskerk’. Often, these churches do not adhere to a specific architectural style, but they do feature various neoclassical elements. This church has been included here in memory of Reverend B.J. Ader. He had been the minister at this church since 1938, but was shot dead in 1944 during the Second World War because of his work in the Resistance. His wife, Johanna Ader-Appels, wrote the well-known book *Een Groninger pastorie in de storm* about the war years. Next to the pulpit, a marble memorial stone can be seen.
