Postkantoor Veendam
The Veendam post office was built between 1901 and 1903 by Chief Government Architect Cornelis Hendrik Peters (1847–1932). Peters used this style for several post offices, and it is also known as ‘post office Gothic’.

A distinctive feature of this building is its central risalit: a façade that projects slightly forwards across its entire height. The building has an elegant appearance thanks to the natural stone façade bands, decorative anchors and the four dormer windows with slate hipped roofs and finials. In addition, the post office had an integrated staff accommodation. The building is still used as a living and working space, but no longer as a post office. The town hall in Winschoten and the post office in Oude Pekela were also designed by Peters.
