Koren- en pelmolen De Leeuw

De Leeuw in Zeerijp is an eight-sided tower mill with a function as a corn and peel mill. The mill was built in 1865 on the eastern village edge of Zeerijp, on a spot where a mill had stood as early as 1662, but is now at the centre of the village.

The construction of De Leeuw used material from a mill from Solwerd on Damsterdiep. The mill was purchased by the then municipality of 't Zandt in 1965. In the hurricane of November 1972, De Leeuw was badly damaged and required restoration. In 1992, the mill was transferred to Mill Foundation Fivelingo. A second restoration was completed in 2012. Since 1 January 2016, the mill has been owned by Het Groninger Landschap.

A nice detail of Molen de Leeuw is that the mill contains several verses and events, recorded by the various millers.

The mill is open every Saturday from 1pm to 5pm when the flag is out and/or the mill is running.

A group excursion on request is also possible.
