Fontein Selwerderhof
In front of the auditorium of the Selwerderhof cemetery stands a large sculpture in the circular pond. This was made by Hans Ittmann from Amsterdam and is 4.5 metres high.
Take a closer look
The sculpture consists of five vertical poles piercing two saucer shapes. The hollow saucer shapes face each other with their convex sides. The water sprays up through the stakes. The sculpture has organic forms and is reminiscent of plants or fungi. Begraafplaats Selwerd was laid out in the period 1939-1949 to a design by garden architect L.W. Copijn and J. Vroom jr. The two auditoriums from 1949-1951 and 1963-1964, respectively, were designed by the then architect municipal works J.H.M. Wilhelm. Today, the entire complex is a municipal monument.
