Take a closer look

Since her graduation, Aletta Jacobs has been one of the icons of emancipation in the Netherlands. As the first woman to graduate from the University of Groningen, she is still an example for many others. On one of the buildings on Broerplein in the city, she has recently been immortalised with a mural. This was created by VAAF, a Groningen artist duo. On the wall, Aletta is depicted several times at different moments of her life. It shows the struggle she had to fight for equal rights.

About VAAF
VAAF is a grunneg illustration duo consisting of Lotte Masker and Jonna Bo Lammers. They are two illustrators who like to work in turmoil, because chaos leads to creativity. That's why they love making live illustrations at events. And especially; murals on location! They work mainly with paint, hence the name 'VAAF'; grunnegs for paint.
