Location
Before the Second World War, the premises at number 23 housed a horse butcher’s shop. This butcher was one of the many Jewish shopkeepers who contributed to the growth and prosperity of the Folkingestraat. The horses were delivered at specific times and herded through the passageway to the abattoir. The relief shows a side view of a horse, and between the two walls we can just make out the horse entering the butcher’s shop. The tiles behind the horse are authentic butcher’s shop tiles; only the colour has been changed.
