Zuidema's klap
Few bridges are as beautiful as Zuidema’s Klap. There is no doubt about its age: the year 1879 is inscribed on the cast-iron ornament. And why is the bridge called Zuidema? It’s quite simple: the Zuidema family lived nearby. And ‘klap’ means ‘drawbridge’.
Zuidema's klap is a bascule bridge dating from 1879. The bridge was built to connect Niekerk with the hamlet of Panser and spans the Hunsingo Canal. Over the years, some sections of the bridge have been replaced. Nevertheless, the bridge remains largely in its original state, which is why it has been designated a national monument.
