Small Polder
On the border of land and sea lies the Kleine Polder in Termunterzijl. Here, fresh salt water meets and there is room for birds, fish and people. A special area where recreation and nature go hand in hand.

The polder consisted of a swimming lake with a small beach and undulating grassland. During the redevelopment, we reconnected the landscape of the Kleine Polder to the Wadden Sea through a fresh-salt connection and made the area more attractive for people and animals.
During the redevelopment in 2022, a transition was created between water and land and between salt and fresh. The western side has remained a recreational area with a swimming lake, beach, play island and lookout point.
Nature islands have been developed on the east side with room for birds to breed and rest at high tide. There is also extra space for fish. Between the islands, water plants, pebbles and gentle banks have been installed. On the northern side of the area, scrub vegetation has been planted. Hawthorn, buckthorn and elder make the area attractive for migrating birds. On the easternmost nature island is a bank swallow wall.
