UMCG terrein
The UMCG site is situated on the eastern side of Groningen city centre, where the ramparts once stood. The complex is too large to take in at a single glance.

The various functions (education, research and healthcare) are housed in different buildings that are connected to one another both underground and above ground. The main building is situated on the southern side of the site. The bay-shaped glass façade exudes grandeur and ensures a gradual transition from outside to inside. The building also gives the UMCG an appearance that does not immediately bring to mind a hospital. The counters, terraces and supermarket, for example, are the sort of things you might also find at a typical airport.
