Close to the city, near the villages of Middelbert and Engelbert, Meerstad has sprung up in recent years. A new residential area along the shores of the Woldmeer. Naturally, a park was a must, but it had to be unique. In collaboration with various parties, it was decided to create the largest public land art project in the Netherlands here. Grass-covered mounds give the park a distinctive character. Among the grassy mounds, you’ll find numerous species of trees, shrubs and flowers, as well as a water feature that runs through the middle of the park. The footpaths follow the contours of the landscape, whilst the cycle path cuts straight through it. The park features a natural play area by the water with stepping stones in the water, trees to climb, a rope raft, a wooden cable car and space for building huts. From the beach, you can take a refreshing dip in the Woldmeer. A lovely spot for the whole family.
