Watertoren Stadskanaal
Drinking water from Stadskanaal came from lower Onnen. To get this water to Stadskanaal and pump it on to other places from there, a powerful pump was needed.

With the arrival of the water tower (in 1935), such a powerful pump became less necessary. Differences in water consumption could also be accommodated in the water reservoir above the tower. The tower is 42.67 metres high and was designed by H.F. Mertens in the style of the Amsterdam School. This can be seen, among other things, in the red bricks used. The water reservoir holds 900m3 of water.
