Kalkovens
East of Garmerwolde are three kalkovens on the Damsterdiep. The kilns were built in 1876 for the lime factory De Merapie, commissioned by E.R. Wigboldus. Their shape makes the kilns a striking feature in the landscape.

They consist of a cylindrical substructure and have a conical superstructure reinforced by iron bands. After lime production ceased in 1976, the three kilns were converted into one dwelling.
